Four months in one hand, a third of a year in the other.

Do you see what I have to deal with here?

Punk Rock Babies

I am talking about badass babies with attitude. In this photo it’s like they’re saying, “Dude, we’ll sleep through the night when we’re ready. Until then, you and Dad can suck it.”

I still try to think of them as 18 weeks old instead of 4 months. I don’t know why. I think it makes me feel like time is moving more slowly, even though there’s no logic to this. But I just can’t bare to think about how fast it’s all going.

I know I continue to complain about the lack of sleep, but in truth, soon they will sleep all through the night. Won’t cry out for me. Won’t need my cuddling and nursing at 3am. And while I’ll be better rested and happy for that, I’ll also be missing those late night/early morning snuggles, where it was all warm and close and we were all here together in some total kind of way.

So 18 weeks is 4 months and 7 days which is over one third of their first year. And when I think of it like that, I think, whoa.

Just, whoa.

Okay, while I expect they’ll begin to sleep better soon, I think you’re living in a fantasy if you think they won’t cry out for you. They have a good portion of my genetic material, and I was master of: “Mom… Dad… Mom… Dad…” [Long pause.] “Yes, Alex?” “Can I have a glass of water?” And well beyond the age when I was perfectly capable of toddling my little butt into the bathroom and getting it myself. Of course, that meant dodging incantations from the witch under the bed and the long arms of the closet monster.

This diary thingy that you have going is something I just recently tapped into. All I have to say is: I love it. I don’t want to say too much else, cause I don’t want to screw with your mojo. So, keep writing when the mood strikes you…or not. Punk rock babies: they each have their own “look”. One has a sneer (lip curl) whilst the other is just staring you down in a squinty-eyed Clint Eastwood kind of way. Yet, look at that smooth soft skin, the blubber, the yumminess! Punk rock babies.

Gahhhhh so handsome. Love the squinty, almost calculating looks.

I know how you feel about the sleep thing, although obviously on a lesser, one baby scale :P I know Maia wakes up because she needs to eat, not out of some malevolent desire to keep me awake, but I still fantasize about a full night’s sleep.

They look like football hooligans. I mean, they do, right?

Don’t be too worried…it’s not going to be over with as soon as you will hope. My guy is 6 1/2 months now and just when he seemed to get the hang of sleeping well….TEETHING! I really do not understand how some babies sleep through the night always. It seems like an urban legend to me, a fellow nursing mom. My guy is WAY better than my daughter was. I don’t think she slept through the night until she was 2….but those teeth can really mess a fella up!(…and a mom)!

This picture is tooo cute!

I often refer to my daughter as 77 months old – she gives me the oddest looks when I do that. :)

ok here is a reality check from my end of the world. We had a family bed and my kids did not reliably sleep through the night (in their own rooms) until they were 3 1/2. For a while after that by morning one or the other or both were in the bed with me. (And dad and usually the dog too because we are all granola like that) So I am with Alex. They are going to be needing you in the night long after you are ready for that to stop.

Btw, they are totally adorable in that photo. I *love* the attitudes!

They are so cute!!

I prefer to use weeks myself. My Mom asked if it made Lily seem younger and yes it sure does. I am amazed how fast time flies.

LOVE their inherent sass. They’re awesome. (tired word, I know, but they are.)

Cannot TELL you how long I clung to weeks over months. Now, I really want to say my twins are 90 months. Enjoy…even if the teething theory proves valid.
