My name is Amy and I’m the chief wiser mom-to-be here. I’m starting this blog because I’m 39 and pregnant for the first time, and quite frankly I really loathe being called “older mom” or referred to as of “advanced maternal age.” I understand that I’m past peaking in terms of fertility – all to well. But I firmly believe there needs to be more positive spin on women having their kids later.
The odds are in our favor, are they not?
I got tired of hunting and googling “moms over 35″ to only wind up at the March of Dimes site, where I was duly warned about all of the awful risks of undertaking pregnancy at my age. Most references to moms over 35 on the net are this kind of crepe hanging. I don’t deny the risks, but given the huge increase in women having their kids when they’re old enough to know better, literally, there must be a lot of positives to it.
And that’s what I’m here to write about.
I’ll be thrilled if you join me by leaving comments or sending email. Please send suggestions, things you’d like to read about and stories to share. The more I hear about women having their kids later, the better I feel. So I hope this site adds to you feeling good about your pregnancy and child rearing too.
